a β<cr> command or edited in other ways. Characters up to a total of 138 may be
added but the line cannot then be reentered.
Two lines totalling 133 characters or less can be joined  by a αD command at the
end of the first. The combined line can still be split by a β<cr> command but if
characters are added (to the  limit of 138) before it is released  from the line
editor the old limit of 133 chars. then applies.
